Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and senior political leaders, including former chief ministers Sushilkumar Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray, paid their last respects to Asha Bhosle at her Mumbai residence on Monday.
The 92-year-old legendary singer passed away on Sunday due to multi-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital after a career spanning more than seven decades.
Governor Varma laid a wreath on Bhosle’s mortal remains, which were draped in the national flag and placed in the lobby of her Casa Grand residence in Lower Parel. Soft renditions of her iconic songs played in the background as condolences were offered to the bereaved family.
Former chief ministers Shinde and Thackeray were seen consoling family members, including her son Anand and granddaughter Zanai. Thackeray’s wife Rashmi also expressed condolences.
Among others who paid tribute were Maharashtra ministers Ashish Shelar and Mangal Prabhat Lodha, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule and NCP leader Praful Patel.
Her funeral is scheduled to take place at Shivaji Park in Dadar at 4 pm with full state honours.
Fondly known as Ashatai, Bhosle was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan and Maharashtra Bhushan.
