President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday awarded six Kirti Chakras, four of them posthumously, to the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel for displaying indomitable courage and extraordinary bravery during anti-terrorist operation in Kashmir and Manipur.
Kirti Chakra is India's second highest peacetime gallantry award.
Among the recipients were five personnel from the Army, anmd Deputy Suprintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Himayun Muzzammil Bhat.
Col Manpreet Singh and Himayun Muzzammil were conferred with the Kirti Chakra for the same operation against Pakistani terrorists in thick jungles of Anantnag, south Kashmir in September 2023, posthumously.

According to the citation which was read during the award ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan,“Humayun Muzzammil Bhat enngaged the terrorists in Anantnag in September 2023 “disregarding his own safety and d Despite sustaining severe gunshot wounds, he continued to fire, preventing their escape” .
His wife Fatima received the award for her husband from president Droupadi Murmu.

Maj Malla Rama Gopal Naidu of the Maratha Light Infantry, 56 Rashtriya Rifles, and Major Manjit of the Punjab Regiment, 22 Rashtriya Rifles, received the Kirti Chakra.

The father of Rifleman Ravi Kumar, The Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, 63 Rashtriya Rifles received the medal for his son who laid down his life while fighting terrorists in Kashmir:

President Murmu, who is the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, also presented 33 Shaurya Chakras, including seven posthumously, to the personnel of the armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces and state/Union Territory police during a defence investiture ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
