Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted a decade of development in Assam under the BJP, describing it as an “era of service and good governance,” while expressing confidence that the party will secure a third consecutive term in the state.

Addressing a public rally in Gogamukh, Modi credited former chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma for ushering in what he termed a “new era” in the state.

“These elections are about building a developed Assam for a developed India. A hat-trick for the BJP-NDA government is certain,” he said.

In an indirect attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Modi said the upcoming election would mark a “century of defeats” for what he called the Congress’ “self-proclaimed prince.”

The Prime Minister also pointed to the large turnout at the rally as evidence of public support. “This ocean of people is proof that we will win the election for the third time,” he said.

Highlighting key promises in the BJP’s manifesto, Modi said over 15 lakh additional families would be provided pucca houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He added that poor families would receive free education from kindergarten to postgraduate level.

The Prime Minister also emphasised women-centric schemes, stating that the Lakhpati Didi scheme aims to benefit 40 lakh women in Assam. “Around 3 lakh women have already become ‘Lakhpati Baideo’,” he noted, adding that the Orunodoi scheme would be expanded further.

Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4. The contest is primarily between the ruling BJP-led NDA and the Congress, with the BJP contesting in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
