The minority-based All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has demanded the Centre to take urgent steps to stop atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. The party has also come down heavily on the Bangladesh Government for its alleged failure to ensure safety and security of the Hindu minority community in the neighbouring country.

The AIUDF is an Assam-based regional political party which draws maximum number of votes in assembly and parliamentary elections from the Muslim community of the State.

“Protecting the rights and lives of minorities is the duty and responsibility of a country. But we have seen that Bangladesh has been unable to protect the minority Hindus, atrocities on who have been increasing since the Durga Puja festival,” AIUDF chief & Member of Parliament (MP) Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has stated.

Ajmal who is also president of Assam State Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, has urged the Centre to exert diplomatic pressure on Dhaka and ensure that the Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh are not harassed or victimised. “Peace must reign supreme,” Ajmal said.

On the other hand prominent Muslim citizens in the State have expressed grave concern over the present situation in Bangladesh.

“Bangladesh is our immediate neighbour. We cannot remain oblivious of what is happening in that country. So, the Central Government must immediately address the issue of ensuring safety of lives and property of Hindus in Bangladesh,” noted social activist and lawyer Nekibur Zaman has told Awaz The Voice.
