Many Muslim intellectuals, civil society members and scholars from India have condemned Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s use of unparliamentary language against India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking on Thursday at a press conference in response to India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's statement about Pakistan’s continuous support to terrorism, Bilawal Bhutto launched a personal attack against Prime Minister Modi.
In the last few years, Pakistan has been constantly raising the bogey of RSS when cornered on the issue of cross-border terrorism and this time also the Pakistan Foreign Minister resorted to name calling against RSS and one of the most influential global leaders of the time, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Bilawal’s use of indecent language has evoked sharp criticism in India and many Muslim intellectuals, scholars and civil society members have openly condemned the statement.
Dr. Shomaila Warsi, who teaches international Relations at Maharaja Agrasen College of Delhi University has said that Pak Foreign Ministers acidic remarks against the Prime Minister Modi "are nothing but a sign of frustration after India won accolades at the UNSC."
"India’s EAM Dr. S Jaishankar has completely demolished Pakistan’s attempts to hide behind words and get away with the acts of terrorism and India’s 200 million strong Muslim community is at Prime Modi’s back and will do everything to defend his honour". Dr. Warsi added.
Dr. Mohd Hafeezur Rahman, author and President of Sufi Peace Foundation, meanwhile called the comments shameful. He said that "one would not wish such things for the worst personal enemies also and talking at a global forum, Bilawal Zardari using such language is complete violation of diplomatic code and human decency. Pakistan should introspect who is killing Shia mourners, mosque-goers, Milad pilgrims in that country. Is it anyone coming from outside to kill them?"
"No. Pakistan runs a cottage industry of terrorism and Pakistani leaders need to look at India as an example of tolerant Islam and how Prime Minister Modi’s inclusive agenda is bringing development to all people irrespective of religions, caste and creed", added Dr. Hafeezur Rahman from Delhi.
