Union Minister Suresh Gopi on Wednesday said there is no concern among churches regarding the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), asserting that only those who violate norms need to worry.

Speaking to reporters in Thrissur, the BJP leader clarified that the amendment is not targeted at any particular religion or community, but is intended to safeguard the interests and properties of the people of the country.

“There is no concern over the FCRA amendment. This is not an issue concerning Christians, Hindus, Sikhs or Buddhists. It is meant for the protection of the people of the country and their properties,” he said.

Gopi emphasised that organisations complying with regulations and maintaining proper accounts have nothing to fear. “Only those who commit wrongdoing need to be worried, irrespective of their religion or community. Those who have misused the system alone should be concerned,” he added.

He further stated that churches, particularly Catholic institutions, have maintained proper financial records and therefore should not have any apprehensions about the amendments.
