The Ministry of Shipping on Wednesday said there is no congestion at ports across the country despite global concerns over energy supply disruptions due to the West Asia conflict.

Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing, Additional Secretary Rajesh Kumar Sinha said maritime operations and cargo movement remain smooth and are being closely monitored.

He highlighted that the Visakhapatnam Port Authority has created around 2,250 square metres of additional storage space to manage any potential surge in cargo.

Citing Mundra Port as an example, Sinha noted that against a total container handling capacity of about four lakh TEUs, current occupancy is only around 25 per cent, indicating ample capacity.

He also assured that Indian seafarers in the region remain safe. According to the ministry, 611 individuals aboard 22 Indian-flagged vessels operating near the Strait of Hormuz are secure, with no incidents reported.
