The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Thursday reassured citizens that the country’s energy supply remains stable, stating that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG across India.

In an official clarification, the Ministry said that all fuel retail outlets are functioning normally and are adequately stocked. It dismissed reports suggesting shortages as misinformation, urging people not to be influenced by rumours or engage in panic buying.

The government emphasised its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to energy resources and advised the public to rely only on verified information from official sources.

Earlier, during an inter-ministerial briefing, Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma highlighted that the Centre is focusing on expanding access to Piped Natural Gas (PNG), while maintaining sufficient availability of petrol and diesel without any change in prices.

She noted that India’s refineries are operating at optimal capacity, with an annual crude oil refining capability of around 260 million tonnes. Addressing recent scenes of long queues at fuel stations, she clarified that these were driven by panic buying rather than any actual supply disruption.

Sharma assured that both petrol and diesel supplies remain adequate at fuel stations and distribution terminals, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary hoarding.

She also underlined that ensuring universal access to PNG remains a priority, with full domestic supply being maintained. Similarly, compressed natural gas (CNG) is also being made available without disruption.
