Police in Noida on Wednesday invoked the National Security Act against two individuals accused in connection with last month’s workers’ agitation and subsequent violence in the city, officials said.

In an official statement, police identified the accused as Satyam Verma and Akriti, alleging that both were active members of ‘Mazdoor Bigul Dasta’.

Authorities said several cases had been registered at different police stations under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate following incidents of violence, arson and alleged provocative activities during a labour sit-in protest held on April 13.

According to police, the two accused played a key role in the unrest and were allegedly involved in mobilising protesters and creating disorder during the demonstrations.

“They attempted to disturb public order by inciting people in different parts of the commissionerate area,” the statement said, adding that action under the National Security Act had now been initiated against them.

Police also warned that individuals involved in spreading unrest, misinformation or attempting to disturb peace in the commissionerate area would be identified and dealt with firmly.
