Hojai
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, accusing it of prioritising self-interest over development during its tenure in Assam.
Addressing an election rally in Hojai in support of BJP candidate Shiladitya Dev, Modi contrasted the Congress’ governance with that of the NDA, asserting that his government has focused on improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
He claimed that earlier regimes left the state struggling with poor infrastructure, particularly in sectors like electricity, roads and railways. In contrast, he said, the current government has expanded power access to lakhs of households and improved overall connectivity.
Highlighting welfare initiatives, the Prime Minister pointed to the PM Surya Ghar Muft Yojana, under which financial assistance is provided for rooftop solar installations. He said many families in Assam have benefited from the scheme, reducing their electricity expenses significantly.
Modi also alleged that Congress follows a “family-first” approach, claiming the party focuses on advancing the interests of select families rather than public welfare. He accused it of being associated with corruption and lacking a long-term vision for development.
Expressing confidence ahead of the Assembly elections, he said the public mood indicates strong support for the BJP-led NDA and a renewed mandate in the state.
