Stories of ordinary men and women rising to the occasion to help each other during the Corona pandemic and the lockdown period and becoming extraordinary in the eyes of others have started pouring in.

One such a story is of Shabana Ansari of Shivaji Nagar, Mumbai.

During the lockdown when all the hospitals in Mumbai were being evacuated to make room for the patients of Corona, she decided to help her neighbour Pooja Mishra who was to deliver her baby and had nobody around.

It was the time when people were afraid to enter a hospital for the fear of contracting Coronavirus when Pooja’s labour pain started.

On that particular day, Pooja's husband was not around. When Shabana came to know about her condition, she left all her chores at home and accompanied her neighbour to a government hospital where she got her admitted.

After sometimes, a nurse approached Shabaha and told her that her patient required a caesarean section delivery and someone from her family has to sign the indemnity bond. Pooja's condition was not good.

When Shabana signed the papers, the nurse noticed her name and said, "You are a Muslim and the patient a Hindu; we will not accept your signatures. If you run away and something happens to Pooja who will take charge from her family."

Shabana kept her cool and tried to convince the nurse of her noble intentions. For some reason, the latter was adamant. On the other hand, Pooja’s condition was worsening; she was writhing in pain.

Shabana's was done with being polite.

In an angry tone, he told the nurse, “take my signatures on whatever paper you want to, but, please, treat Pooja. I will stay put here and am not run away.”

She told the nurse that if she had some evil design in her mind why would she bring Pooja to the hospital. "This is not about Hindu-Muslim. It’s about a mother," she told the nurse  "Being a mother, I empathise with Pooja who is in extreme pain due to labour and you too must do the same."

Shabana's words had a profound impact on the nurse. Without uttering a word, she quickly wheeled Pooja into the operation theatre.

Now, she feels a connection to Pooja's daughter and plays with her often.

After her experience of helping in bringing life on this earth, she decided to extend it to the others who are in a similar situation.

Shabana is not rich. She says."a good heart and not always money is needed to help others in distress."

She attends to her work in the day and in her spare time goes around her locality offering free medicines to the needy.

Shabana has given the mythical angel a name!
