Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said he would participate in the swearing-in ceremonies of the newly elected BJP-led governments in West Bengal and Assam, scheduled for May 9 and May 12 respectively.

Speaking to reporters, Saha said he would leave for Kolkata to attend the formation of the BJP’s first-ever government in West Bengal and would later travel to Assam for the oath-taking ceremony of the NDA government there.

The Bharatiya Janata Party registered a landmark victory in West Bengal in the recently concluded Assembly elections, securing 207 seats in the 294-member House and ending decades of dominance by regional forces in the state. In Assam, the BJP strengthened its position by winning 82 seats in the 126-member Assembly, paving the way for a third successive term in office.

Saha described the electoral victories as politically significant and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the party’s continued success across the country.

Recalling his campaign visits to several parts of West Bengal, the Tripura chief minister said he had sensed a strong desire for political change among voters, though the scale of the BJP’s victory exceeded expectations.

He also took aim at Mamata Banerjee, saying it was surprising that she had not resigned from office following her party’s defeat in the Assembly elections.
