After the Mahayuti alliance delivered a resounding performance in the Maharashtra local body elections, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said the results had effectively “wiped out” the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) from the state.

Addressing an event in Nagpur, Fadnavis claimed that nearly 75 per cent of municipal council presidents had been elected from the Mahayuti alliance, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi managed to secure only around 50 such positions.

“In yesterday’s Maharashtra election results, the BJP has emerged as the number one party. The Mahayuti alliance has elected 75 per cent of the municipal council presidents. Only 50 presidents have come from the Maha Vikas Aghadi, whereas 210 have been elected from the Mahayuti. We have wiped out the Maha Vikas Aghadi. The BJP has the highest strike rate, with 65 per cent of the elected presidents belonging to our party,” Fadnavis said.

He further stated that nearly 3,000 corporators have been elected from the Mahayuti alliance, calling it a record performance. Of these, 48 per cent belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party, he added.

“This year, around 3,000 corporators from our alliance have been elected, and 48 per cent of the total corporators are from the BJP. This is a record. People have once again shown their faith in our government. They have responded positively to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s politics of development and trust,” the Chief Minister said.

Fadnavis also asserted that traditional opposition strongholds in Nagpur had been dismantled. “The opposition’s bastions in Nagpur have been demolished. We have made the Saoner Municipal Council Congress-free. In the coming days, we will also win the municipal corporation and Zilla Parishad elections,” he added.

Vote counting for 286 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats began at 10 am on Monday. The elections were held in two phases, with some councils going to the polls on December 2 and others on December 20.

According to the Chief Minister, around 129 municipal council chairpersons have been elected from the BJP. Collectively, the three Mahayuti partners—BJP, Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction)—account for nearly 75 per cent of all city council chairpersons. In terms of corporators, more than 3,300 BJP candidates have been elected across the state.
