The oil-rich and football-obsessed Qatar will be the center of attention doe football lovers from all over the world for the next 22 days. The Sunday evening will see a colorful opening of the FIFA World Cup and herald the world's biggest sports festival. It’s for the first time that FIFA World Cup is being organized in an Islamic or Arab country.
Qatar is the first Islamic and Arab country and the second Asian country to host the football world cup.
The world cup 2002 was held jointly in Korea and Japan and therefore this event has returned to the continent for the second time. The 22 day event will see the national teams of 32 countries vying with each other for the Cup. Again it's for the first time that the FIFA World Cup is being played in Winter. Qatar's summers are extreme and therefore the Cup was shifted to winter.
The opening ceremony and practice match between hosts Qatar and Equador will be held at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar. The Stadium has a capacity of 60,000 spectators. While the final match will be played on December 18 at the Lucille Iconic Stadium, Lucille. Over all 64 matches will be played.
Twelve million fans from around the world, almost half of Qatar's population, will flock to the country during the World Cup to watch the matches.This time, the French team will defend the title in the mega event. In 2018, the French team defeated Croatia by 4 goals to 2 to lift the Cup and become champions for the second time.
Brazil is the only country to win the title five times. Germany and Italy have won the title four times, Argentina, France, and Uruguay twice, while the teams of Spain and England have won the title once each.
Not only this, this World Cup to be played in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022, will be the most expensive FIFA World Cup in history. The cost of hosting the World Cup in Qatar is estimated to be around 220 billion dollars. This is almost 20 times more than the cost of the previous football World Cup held in Russia.
Interestingly, the highest number of tickets have been sold for Argentina vs Mexico match. The second place was Argentina and Saudi Arabia, the third place was England-USA, followed by Poland and Argentina, and then the final match. Argentina, Germany, Brazil, and France. are rated as favourites of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Brazil is said to be the favorite team of fans for the FIFA World Cup 2022. According to football experts, the Brazilian team can throw surprises.

Salima, the Rwandan referee who supervised the matches of the event, says that she is happy to be a part of the Football World Cup. She said her selection is not a gender-based project but on merit. Salima is among the three women who are supervising the matches of the FIFA World Cup.

The winning team will be awarded 44 million dollars while the runner-up team will get 3 million dollars. The second runner-up will be entitled to $2.7 million and the third runner-up team will be entitled to $2.25 million.
Each losing quarter-final team will get $17 million, while the pre-quarter-final losers won't go home empty-handed with $13 million. Ninety hundred thousand dollars will come to the hands of the teams that are knocked out from the group stage.
