A homeless man lynched in Pakistan for 'blasphemy'

New Delhi

A homeless beggar and a mentrally deranged man, who has been identified as Muhammad Mushtaq of Khanewal in Pakistan's Punjab, was tortured and killed by a mob at Mian Channu on Saturday on charges of attempting to desecrate the holy Quran.

According to local media, the incident happened at Mian Channu’s Tulamba Madrasa at Khanewal. The reports say it was a “Sialkot like incident when an angry mob killed a man accusing him of committing desecration of sacred papers on Saturday, which triggered mob violence.”

It happened in front of a police station, where he the victim was taken after people accused him of trying to tear off the pages of Holy Quran inside the mosque.

As he was left by the police, the mob pounced upon him. He was lynched and was tied to a pole and left to die.

The all happened in front of the policemen who did not intervene.

This is the second recorded case of mob lynching in Pakistan in recent months. A Sri Lankan Manager of a private factory was tortured and killed in Sialkot for alleged blasphemy.
