Acclaimed filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming thriller Daayra, featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles, will arrive in cinemas on September 18, the producers announced on Thursday.

Inspired by real-life incidents, the film is described as an intense drama that examines the themes of crime, justice and accountability. The screenplay has been developed by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal and Meghna Gulzar.

Daayra marks the first time Kareena Kapoor Khan and Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran will share screen space. Both actors portray police officers at the centre of a gripping narrative that explores the fine line between legal procedures and moral justice.

According to the makers, the film will challenge audiences to rethink conventional notions of right and wrong as it navigates complex questions surrounding law enforcement and punishment.

Known for her socially relevant storytelling, Gulzar is expected to bring her distinctive narrative style to the project, combining suspense with thought-provoking themes rooted in reality.

The film is jointly backed by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. It also reunites Gulzar with Junglee Pictures following the success of their earlier collaborations, Talvar (2015) and Raazi (2018), both of which received critical acclaim for their compelling storytelling and realistic treatment of sensitive subjects.
