Veteran actor Saira Banu has penned an emotional note recalling her long-standing friendship with Hema Malini and her memories of actor Dharmendra, who passed away in November last year.
Sharing a photograph with Hema Malini on social media, Banu revisited their early days together during the 1960s, saying she was deeply struck by Malini’s beauty when she first met her on a film set. The two later spent considerable time together during a shoot near the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam, where their rooms were located next to each other.
Banu wrote that those days naturally brought them closer, as they would spend long hours talking in the verandah about everyday life, personal routines, and beauty-related discussions, often joined by their mothers as well.
She added that despite the passage of time, their bond has remained unchanged, describing it as a friendship that has endured without effort or formality. According to her, some relationships do not need to be maintained consciously, as they simply continue with mutual understanding.
The actor also reflected on her memories of Dharmendra, with whom she worked in several films. She recalled his warmth and sincerity, noting the deep respect he always held for Dilip Kumar, which she said was evident in the way he spoke about him.
Banu described Dharmendra’s affection as natural and unspoken, rooted in genuine admiration rather than formal expression.
Dharmendra, one of Indian cinema’s most popular actors, passed away at the age of 89 in November last year.

Concluding her note, Banu said some relationships are not confined to the past, as they continue to live on through memories and emotions that remain present over time.
