Global medical technology company BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) recently participated as a Knowledge Partner at the World Regional Anaesthesia & Pain Medicine (RAPM) Day Workshop, underscoring its commitment to strengthening patient safety in regional anaesthesia practices across India.

Through its India and South Asia operations, BD supported the workshop by facilitating practical, real-time learning experiences for clinicians. The initiative focused on hands-on exposure to advanced spinal anaesthesia solutions, along with faculty-led live training sessions supported by clinically relevant tools and educational resources.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) and the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (IMS BHU). It aimed to enhance clinical proficiency in Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anaesthesia (USGRA) by combining scientific lectures, expert demonstrations, and immersive ultrasound scanning exercises.

Conducted under the academic guidance of ISA, the Academy of Regional Anaesthesia of India (AORA), and the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA), the programme drew participation from over 40 delegates. Attendees included postgraduate anaesthesia students, early-career and practicing anaesthesiologists, as well as members of ISA Varanasi and faculty from academic institutions. Key focus areas included ultrasound fundamentals, postoperative pain management strategies, and detailed scanning techniques for upper limb, lower limb, truncal, and abdominal regional blocks.

Dr A.P. Singh, Head of the Department of Anaesthesia at IMS BHU, said the collaboration added significant academic value to the programme. He noted that BD’s advanced spinal needles and medication delivery solutions enhanced the quality of hands-on training, enabling participants to develop practical skills that can directly improve clinical outcomes and patient safety.

Atul Grover, Managing Director of BD India/South Asia, said the company was proud to support the academic initiative led by ISA and IMS BHU. “At BD, our focus is on advancing patient safety and improving anaesthesia practices through continuous medical education. By partnering with leading medical institutions, we aim to promote safer medication practices, reduce procedural errors, and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” he said.
