A Professor of  Shri Varshini College in the city has gone on leave pending an inquiry by a committee about “he preaching segregation by offering Namaz in the park of the college.” The complaint was filed by some students of the same college.

A video of Dr. Shah Raziq Khalid, a professor in the college, had gone viral on social media last week. In the video, he is seen praying alone in the college park under a tree.

Based on the video, members of the BJP's student wing Akhal Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad complained to the college principal. The students affiliated with the ABVP also complained to the Gandhi Park police station in the area.

The college's principal Anil Kumar Gupta has formed a committee and he has released a video message on social media saying that such religious activities would not be tolerated in the college.

Within a few days, Professor SR Khalid suddenly proceeded on a month's leave. The investigation of the committee is still inconclusive. In fact, the summer vacation of the College are nearing. “We were told by the professor that he has gone on leave and the report of the inquiry committee will be out in a day or two and thereafter we will take action,” Nitin, in charge of Gandhi Park police station, said.

Police said they will be able to take action only after the inquiry committee submits its report to the college authorities.

In its complaint, the ABVP wrote: "Professors are praying, creating segregation among students, this act of Professor smells of a conspiracy. Their mentality is to spoil the environment and discredit the UP government."
Prof Khalid however told the media that on that particular day he was not able to go to the mosque because of his back pain. The college Principal had denied allegations leveled by the ABVP members that the said teacher offers prayers every day on the ground.

“I was late for duty that day and also had pain in my back so I could not go to the mosque and prayed in the park,” Prof Raziq Khalid said.
The ABVP had threatened that if no action was taken against the professor, they would recite Hanuman Chalisa on the campus.
