Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is projected to make a strong debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, according to the Axis My India exit poll. The survey suggests that the party could secure a vote share comparable to the DMK in its first electoral outing.
As per the projections, the DMK-led seven-party alliance is expected to win between 92 and 100 seats. Meanwhile, TVK could emerge as a major contender with an estimated 98 to 120 seats. The AIADMK-led five-party alliance is likely to secure 22 to 32 seats.
The poll also indicates that Vijay has a slight edge over incumbent Chief Minister MK Stalin in terms of public preference for the top post. While 37 percent of respondents favoured Vijay, Stalin received support from 35 percent.
However, several other exit polls present a different picture, predicting a return to power for the DMK-led alliance. According to People Pulse, the DMK alliance may win 125 to 145 seats, while the AIADMK alliance, which includes the BJP, could secure 65 to 80 seats. In this projection, TVK is expected to win only 2 to 6 seats.
Tamil Nadu has a total of 234 Assembly constituencies.
Matrize exit poll estimates suggest the DMK and its allies could win 122 to 132 seats, while the AIADMK alliance may secure 80 to 100 seats. TVK, in this case, is projected to win between 0 and 6 seats.
Similarly, the P-MARQ survey forecasts 125 to 145 seats for the DMK-led alliance, 60 to 70 seats for the AIADMK bloc, and 1 to 6 seats for TVK. Another poll by People Insight predicts 120 to 140 seats for the DMK alliance, 60 to 70 for the AIADMK alliance, and a relatively higher 30 to 40 seats for TVK.
The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) includes the Congress among its key partners.
Vijay, who enjoys significant support among young voters, recently described the voter turnout in the April 23 polling as a landmark moment in Tamil Nadu’s political history. Expressing confidence in his party’s prospects, he said the outcome would be decisive.
In a post, Vijay remarked that traditional notions restricting politics to experienced elites or power-seekers have been overturned by ordinary citizens. He highlighted the enthusiastic participation of voters, noting how families turned out in large numbers, likening the scenes at polling booths to crowds at temples.
He also acknowledged those who travelled long distances, including from other states and abroad, to cast their votes, calling it a true celebration of democracy. He described the election as just the beginning of a larger political shift.
