Union Health Minister JP Nadda met Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Maria Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero in the national capital on Wednesday to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, Nadda highlighted the strong and growing partnership between India and Ecuador, noting that both sides explored opportunities to further deepen collaboration in health-related initiatives.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also held talks with Rosero, focusing on expanding ties between India and the South American nation. Discussions covered a range of areas including trade, healthcare, agriculture, digital collaboration, and capacity building.
Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to working closely with Ecuador in multilateral platforms. He also welcomed Ecuador’s move to begin the process of joining the International Solar Alliance and the International Big Cat Alliance.
Additionally, he noted that an agreement to fund Quick Impact Projects marks further progress in strengthening development cooperation between the two countries.
Rosero arrived in New Delhi earlier in the day for a three-day official visit aimed at boosting bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Jaishankar met Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, to discuss key global issues such as UN reforms, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), artificial intelligence, and the situation in West Asia.

During the meeting, Jaishankar stressed the need for reformed multilateralism that better reflects present-day global dynamics, particularly the priorities of the Global South. He also acknowledged Baerbock’s leadership and contributions in her current role.
