The Delhi High Court on Friday ordered digital media platform Newslaundry to remove certain videos and posts concerning TV Today Network and its channels, Aaj Tak and India Today.

The directive was issued by a Division Bench comprising Justices C Hari Shankar and Om Prakash Shukla while hearing cross-appeals filed by both Newslaundry and TV Today. The court noted that certain remarks in the disputed content appeared prima facie defamatory and could harm the broadcaster’s reputation if left accessible online.

Among the content ordered to be taken down were videos that allegedly used objectionable language to describe programmes aired by TV Today’s channels.

The case stems from a lawsuit filed by TV Today in October 2021, accusing Newslaundry of copyright violation, defamation and disparagement. The media group had alleged that several videos and articles carried misleading and derogatory comments about its channels, anchors and management.

Newslaundry, on the other hand, has argued that its content falls under legitimate criticism and satire, protected by the right to free speech.

Earlier, a single-judge bench had refused to grant interim relief to TV Today, prompting both sides to file appeals. While TV Today challenged the denial of relief, Newslaundry contested certain observations made in the earlier order, including the finding that a prima facie case existed.

During earlier hearings in January 2025, the bench had also taken note of the language used in the content but clarified that its remarks at the time were not final conclusions and no action was intended against the journalist involved.
