New Delhi
Former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain has approached a Delhi court seeking one-month interim bail on medical grounds in connection with a case related to the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots.
In his plea before Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai, Hussain said he requires surgery for an inguinal hernia and subsequent post-operative care. He has sought interim bail from March 20 to April 20.
The application states that he needs pre-operative medical assessments and careful recovery, including infection prevention, restricted physical activity, and assistance for daily needs.
Hussain has been in judicial custody since April 6, 2020. His earlier regular bail plea was rejected on January 29, 2026, though he was granted custody parole in 2025 to campaign during the Delhi Assembly elections.
In his latest plea, he assured the court that he would comply with all conditions, would not influence witnesses or tamper with evidence, and would surrender after the interim bail period.
The court has scheduled the matter for hearing on March 19.
