Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday stated that his government has rationalised the reservation policy in the "best possible manner" to ensure justice to all sections and fulfil a key poll promise.
Speaking after the first Cabinet meeting in Jammu since the Darbar Move, Abdullah said the proposal has been forwarded to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for approval, and it would be inappropriate to comment further until consent is received.
Reservations in J-K have become contentious following the Centre’s expansion of quotas to 70% and the addition of a 10% reservation for Paharis and other tribes, along with an 8% OBC quota.
Abdullah noted that the Cabinet considered 22 agenda items, including infrastructure projects, co-operative societies, and the reservation policy, which underwent multiple reviews and consultations.

He emphasised that the government’s approach was transparent and fair, not aimed at satisfying any individual, and fulfilled another election promise, despite ongoing threats of protests from groups alleging injustice.
