Rekha Gupta on Monday said the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam would significantly strengthen women-led development across the country.

Speaking at the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’ in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gupta urged support for the legislation.

She thanked the Prime Minister for various welfare schemes introduced under his leadership, saying they had helped provide women with dignity and created opportunities for them in multiple sectors.

Gupta said women are capable of successfully handling even the most difficult responsibilities when given the right opportunities, and credited Modi with reinforcing that message.

The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, widely known as the Women’s Reservation Act, was passed in 2023.

According to sources, the Union Cabinet has approved a draft Bill to amend the law, proposing an increase in the strength of the Lok Sabha to 816 seats, with 273 seats reserved for women, to be implemented from the 2029 general elections.
