Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in cheering up the Indian contingent at Tokyo Olympics during the opening ceremony of the games on Friday in the Japan National Stadium, Tokyo.
Modi stood up to cheer the Indian contingent led by the five-time world champion Mary Kom and men's hockey captain Manpreet Singh in the Parade of Nations during the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics.

Sitting In the Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur was also seen waving the Indian flag as the Indian contingent made its way into the stadium.
The Minister watched the live ceremony of the Olympics in the company of officials and invited guests.
Twenty-five members from the Indian contingent attended the Opening Ceremony amid the COVID-19 concerns in the Japanese capital.

Tennis player Ankita Raina was added to the list of players who attended the opening ceremony while Manika Batra and Sharath Kamal from the Table Tennis team did not attend it. Amit, Ashish Kumar, Mary Kom were among the eight boxers who were present at the function along with six Indian officials.
Many Indian sports stars like P T Usha and K Malleshwari watched the opening ceremony and wished the Indian players luck.
The first Indian woman to win gold in Olympic weightlifter K Malleshwari was present at the function where Kiran Rijiju and others watched the show on TV sets.
Malleshwari told the players to play without pressure and enjoy the sports.
