Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday approved the direct recruitment of 70 vacant posts in the state’s Planning Department.

According to an official statement, the recruitment will cover positions across Group A, B, and C categories in the Directorate of Statistics and the Economic Policy and Planning Board.

Out of the total vacancies, 68 posts will be filled in the Directorate of Statistics. These include 14 Assistant Research Officers, 50 Investigators, and four Senior Assistants. The remaining two posts—one Group-A Programmer and one Senior Assistant—will be filled in the Economic Policy and Planning Board.

Cheema said the proposal was initially placed before the Punjab Cabinet to recruit 140 officials. However, during a meeting held on March 29, the Cabinet approved filling 50 per cent of the proposed posts, bringing the total to 70.
