Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader K G Arunraj on Wednesday accused the ruling DMK of using its alliance partners only to mobilise votes while denying them a role in governance, calling such an approach contrary to the principles of social justice.

His remarks come amid a public exchange between the DMK and its key ally, the Congress, over power-sharing in Tamil Nadu. Several Congress leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore, have recently raised the issue of a greater share in power.

However, DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin earlier in the day ruled out any possibility of power-sharing, even as he maintained that the alliance between the two parties remains intact.

Drawing an analogy, Arunraj said the stability of the government rests not on the DMK alone but on its partners as well. “If you examine the situation closely, the chief minister’s chair stands on multiple legs. Only one belongs to the DMK, while the rest are provided by alliance parties,” he said.

Using allies merely to win elections without involving them in governance violates the spirit of social justice, he added.

Arunraj, a former IRS officer, also questioned the DMK’s claim to exclusive credit for its electoral victories. “Even if the DMK has secured over 130 seats, the contribution of alliance partners is present in every constituency. Can that be denied?” he asked.
