RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday said India’s spiritual heritage has enabled the country to survive the forces of materialism and consumerism that, according to him, have weakened many other societies.
Speaking at the ‘Panchkalyanak Pratishtha Gajrath Mahotsav’ in Nagpur, Bhagwat described India as “the soul of the world” and highlighted the role of saints and seers in preserving and spreading spiritual wisdom.
“As long as our country exists, the world will remain safe, because if the world is the body, India is its soul,” he said.
Bhagwat remarked that many ancient civilisations had disappeared over time, but India had continued to endure because of its spiritual foundation.
“It is often said that civilisations such as Greece, Egypt and Rome have faded away. But there is something unique about our civilisation that it has survived. That strength lies in the knowledge passed down by saints and great souls,” he said.
He added that while many nations struggled under the pressures of consumerism and material pursuits, India had withstood such challenges because of its deep-rooted spiritual traditions.

According to Bhagwat, the world lacks the spiritual insight once possessed by India’s ancestors, and whenever global crises emerge, India has historically shown a path forward.
