Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Saturday congratulated Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa for scripting history by becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Norway Chess tournament.
In a statement, Vijay hailed the young chess prodigy's achievement at the Norway Chess 2026 event in Oslo, describing it as a moment of immense pride for both the state and the nation.
The Chief Minister noted that Praggnanandhaa's campaign was made even more remarkable by his victories over reigning champion Magnus Carlsen on two occasions during the tournament, along with a streak of four consecutive wins.
"Heartiest congratulations to Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa on this historic accomplishment. By emerging as the first Indian champion of the Norway Chess tournament, he has once again showcased his extraordinary talent on the global stage," Vijay said.
