A court in Bhopal on Saturday sent Samarth Singh, the main accused in the death case of his wife Twisha Sharma, to seven days of police custody for further interrogation.

The remand has been granted from May 23 to May 29 after police produced him before the court following his arrest.

Samarth Singh was detained in Jabalpur on May 22 after he reportedly attempted to surrender before a court there. Police have also issued three notices to his mother, Giribala Singh, a former judge, in connection with the investigation.

Earlier in the day, Samarth Singh underwent a medical examination before being presented before the court.

Speaking at a press conference, Bhopal Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar said Singh had approached a court in Jabalpur seeking to surrender, but the court declined to permit it. He added that a Bhopal police team present at the location then took him into custody with assistance from the Jabalpur police.

Kumar also responded to claims made by Giribala Singh denying receipt of police notices. He maintained that notices had been properly served and said the police were following all legal procedures in the case.

He further stated that Giribala Singh is accused of serious offences and that police are making efforts to complete her questioning at the earliest. Kumar added that an application seeking cancellation of her anticipatory bail has already been filed before the court. He asserted that the investigation has been conducted fairly and transparently, with all proceedings properly documented.

Meanwhile, AIIMS Delhi’s forensic department head, Dr Sudhir Gupta, said the institution had received a formal request and court order from the Madhya Pradesh government to conduct a second postmortem examination of Twisha Sharma.

According to Gupta, the Director of AIIMS Delhi has approved the formation of a four-member medical board comprising senior doctors to carry out the autopsy. He said the medical team, equipped with the necessary instruments, was scheduled to travel to Bhopal by a state aircraft on Saturday evening for the procedure.
