Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has announced a long break from live performances, saying it is time to slow down and focus on his health after years of relentless touring. The hiatus, which could stretch until 2030, was revealed during a recent show in Hyderabad on his Papa Yaar tour.

Addressing the audience candidly, Zakir said the decision stems from physical strain and long-pending personal responsibilities. While he plans to perform a few more shows in select cities, he has largely chosen to step away from the spotlight for the next three to five years.

“For years, I’ve tried to balance work and health, but now I need a proper timeout,” Zakir said in a recent interview. “I love performing and want to do this even when I’m 80. That means I have to take care of myself now.”

The comedian reflected on the toll constant travel and performances have taken on his body, likening it to standing on a moving escalator for a decade. “Eventually, your body pays the price,” he remarked, adding that long nights, disrupted sleep and continuous commitments left little room for recovery.

Zakir also opened up about his journey in comedy, describing how being the first in his family to pursue stand-up meant building everything from scratch, networks, trust, and a sense of belonging in every city he performed in. “You create small families everywhere you go. That takes time, effort and emotional energy,” he said.

Acknowledging a genetic predisposition to certain health concerns, Zakir said he felt this was the right moment to listen to his body. Thanking fans for their unwavering support, he assured them the break is not an ending but a necessary pause to ensure he can return stronger and perform for many years to come.
