A prominent parliamentary committee has resolved to take up for examination key issues related to domestic violence against women, trafficking of women and girls, as well as the rehabilitation of victims.
The Committee on Empowerment of Women will also review the situation of women prisoners, along with workplace conditions, safety, and security concerns affecting women health workers during the 2026–27 period.
In addition, the panel is set to study and deliberate on gender budgeting across various ministries and assess the implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
The Committee on Empowerment of Women was first established in April 1997 during the 11th Lok Sabha, following the adoption of identical resolutions in both Houses of Parliament aimed at enhancing the status of women.
The panel comprises 30 members in total, with 20 members nominated by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and 10 nominated by the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha from among members of the Upper House.
The committee’s tenure is limited to one year, after which it is reconstituted annually.

Members of the committee are expected to collaborate across party lines to strengthen efforts toward women’s empowerment and related policy interventions.
