Around 28 people have been killed and more than 50 injured in a powerful explosion that rocked a mosque in the city of Peshawar in Pakistan on Monday morning. The explosion occurred in a mosque situated in the city’s Police Lines area during the afternoon prayers.

The attack was the result of a suicide attack by a person sitting in the front row during the prayers.

The blast took place at a time when the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced at the end of November last year the termination of the agreement with the government and resumption of attacks across the country.

In view of the explosion, security has been beefed up across the country.
