Russia has announced that its Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, will travel to India in mid-May to attend the upcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

According to a statement shared by the Russian Foreign Ministry on X, Lavrov is scheduled to visit from May 14 to 15. The meeting will be held in New Delhi under India’s chairmanship.

As per remarks by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, reported by TASS, the gathering is expected to serve as an important forum for discussions on pressing global developments and ways to strengthen international governance frameworks.

She noted that the meeting will focus on enhancing cooperation among countries of the Global South, with particular emphasis on advancing strategic coordination ahead of the next BRICS summit, which is slated to take place in New Delhi in September.

Zakharova also indicated that representatives from BRICS partner nations will take part in multiple sessions during the event.

In addition to multilateral engagements, Lavrov’s visit will include bilateral talks with India’s External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. These discussions are expected to cover a wide range of issues, including upcoming high-level engagements and cooperation across trade, economy, science, technology, and cultural exchanges. Preparations for meetings of the intergovernmental Russia-India commission are also likely to be reviewed.

Earlier, New Delhi hosted a meeting of BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) on April 23–24, where participants exchanged views on evolving regional developments.

The BRICS bloc currently comprises 11 countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. It acts as a key platform for cooperation on global political, economic, and regional issues.
