The United States Embassy in India has praised cooperation from Indian authorities in helping dismantle parts of an alleged network involved in supplying precursor chemicals used to manufacture illegal drugs trafficked to the United States.

In a post on X, the embassy said India’s partnership with US law enforcement was instrumental in disrupting key elements of a criminal network that supplied precursor chemicals to cartels producing narcotics for the American market.

The statement referred to action taken by the US Department of the Treasury through its Office of Foreign Assets Control on April 23. OFAC designated Satishkumar Hareshbhai Sutaria for allegedly assisting in the production of illicit fentanyl.

According to the statement, Sutaria, along with salesperson Yuktakumari Ashishkumar Modi, facilitated sales and shipments of fentanyl precursor chemicals to Mexico and Guatemala, allegedly mislabelling them as “safe chemicals.”

The embassy said the two used SR Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals and Agrat Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals to carry out these transactions. It added that Sutaria and Modi were arrested by Indian authorities in March 2025.

OFAC designated both individuals and the two companies under Executive Order 14059, which targets activities that materially contribute to the international proliferation of illicit drugs or their means of production.
