Telugu folk singer Mangli has issued an apology following the controversy surrounding the Hindi version of the song “Sarke Chunar”, saying the team never intended to offend public sentiments.
In a statement shared on social media, Mangli said the song has been removed from all platforms out of respect for public concerns and that a revised version with updated lyrics will be released soon. She expressed regret over the “unintended mistake” and assured that such an issue would not recur.
The song had sparked widespread backlash due to its sexually explicit Hindi lyrics, with the issue even being raised in Parliament. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that a ban had already been imposed on the track, emphasising that freedom of expression must operate within societal and cultural limits.
Actor Nora Fatehi, who appears in the song alongside Sanjay Dutt, distanced herself from the controversy, stating she had worked on a Kannada version years ago and had flagged concerns about the Hindi adaptation earlier. Lyricist Raqeeb Alam also said he had warned the makers about the vulgarity, but was asked to stick to a literal translation.
The controversy also prompted action from the National Human Rights Commission, which issued a notice to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Central Board of Film Certification. However, the board clarified it had no role since the song was released online.
