Asif Ali on Friday said he would consider joining the election campaign of Congress candidate Ramesh Pisharody in Palakkad if he receives an invitation.
Speaking to the media after offering prayers at an Eidgah in Kochi, the actor said his support for any candidate is based on their competence and ability to serve the public, rather than their political party. He added that Pisharody is a well-known figure whose capabilities are widely acknowledged.
At the same time, Ali made it clear that he would not urge people to vote for someone solely because they belong to the film industry. He emphasised that electoral success depends on a candidate’s political performance and public appeal.
Noting that he has not yet been formally invited, Ali said he would be open to participating in the campaign if asked.
The actor also reiterated that he has no plans to enter politics, despite coming from a family with a political background, and said his focus remains firmly on his film career.
Meanwhile, Pisharody has stepped up his outreach in Palakkad, attending Eid-related events and engaging with voters. He also shared a photo on social media with Mohanlal, who extended his best wishes for the polls.
