Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi honoured the Zonal Recruiting Office (ZRO) Shillong with the COAS Unit Certificate of Appreciation for its exceptional contribution to motivating and recruiting youth from across the North East to serve in the Indian Army. The recognition was presented during the Army Investiture Ceremony held in Jaipur from January 14 to 15.
As per an official statement, the award was accepted on behalf of ZRO Shillong by Brigadier Rajeev Kumar, Deputy Director General Recruiting, along with Subedar Major Milkha Singh.
Through carefully planned outreach programmes, ZRO Shillong succeeded in reaching young aspirants even in remote and inaccessible districts, resulting in a 64 per cent rise in registrations for joining the Armed Forces.
The number of candidates inducted into the Armed Forces from the region has more than doubled compared to the previous year. Officials said this sharp increase reflects the high levels of motivation and confidence among youth in the North Eastern states.
ZRO Shillong, supported by its six Army Recruiting Offices located in Shillong, Narangi, Jorhat, Dimapur, Silchar and Aizawl, jointly covers all seven North Eastern states. Working in close coordination, the teams played a crucial role in achieving this significant milestone, the release added.
The continued backing of Headquarters Eastern Command, its formations and the civil administration was described as a major force multiplier in selecting the most deserving candidates.
According to the release, sustained efforts, dedication and a selfless commitment to recruiting the “fittest for the finest Army” have helped the zone establish a strong reputation, reinforcing its motto of being “Second to None.”
Earlier in the day, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and several senior officials attended the 78th Army Day celebrations held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The event was also attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde, BJP Rajasthan President Madan Rathore and several other dignitaries.

The Army Day parade took place on Mahal Road in Jagatpura, marking the first time the ceremonial event was organised outside a cantonment area.
