The BJP on Saturday organised a state-level 'Tiranga Yatra' in Shimla to commemorate the 80th year of India's Independence.

Hundreds of party workers participated in the yatra, held under the leadership of Himachal Assembly Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap.

It kicked off from the CTO and concluded near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at The Ridge.

Speaking on the occasion, Kashyap said, "It is an opportunity to pay tribute to the lakhs of freedom fighters, brave soldiers, and immortal martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the motherland, sacrificing their lives for the honour and dignity of the Tricolour," he said.

Kashyap said the motive behind the yatra was the BJP’s message of patriotism, national unity, and integrity to the people across the country.

He called on every person of the country to actively participate in the ‘Tiranga Har Ghar Abhiyan’.

Referring to the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Kashyap said the Congress and its allies have been continuously disrupting Parliament's functioning for the past two weeks.

"MPs from across the country want to raise important issues related to their constituencies, development works, natural disasters, and public problems in Parliament, but the opposition's uproar is wasting valuable Parliamentary time. The Congress should let Parliament function smoothly," he said.

Thakur also said that the completion of 80 years of independence is a matter of pride for every Indian.

"BJP has decided that Tiranga Yatras will be organised in every district and assembly constituency before Independence Day, to further strengthen the spirit of patriotism among the youth and the new generation", he said.

Thakur called upon all citizens to hoist the Tricolour at their homes and strengthen “the resolve for nation building”.
