General Anil Chauhan on Saturday said future conflicts would increasingly become multi-domain in nature, involving simultaneous operations across land, sea, air, cyberspace and cognitive warfare.

Addressing the inauguration of a defence manufacturing facility in Ahilyanagar district, the Chief of Defence Staff said modern warfare was no longer dependent solely on troop strength, conventional weaponry or platform-centric operations.

He noted that technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, robotics, cyber systems, autonomous platforms, space-based capabilities, precision-strike weapons and information dominance were rapidly shaping the future of warfare.

“In the coming years, technology, speed and innovation will become the key determinants of successful military operations,” General Chauhan said.

He added that future battlefields would extend beyond geographical territories into digital networks, cyber infrastructure and information ecosystems.

“Future wars will be multi-domain where land, sea, cyberspace, cognitive warfare and air operations will function together,” he said.

The CDS further emphasised that countries capable of innovating quickly, scaling up defence production rapidly and adapting their armed forces to emerging technologies would gain a strategic advantage in future conflicts.
