Congress leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday intensified his criticism of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma amid an ongoing political confrontation between the two.
In a post on X, the Indian National Congress shared a video message by Khera, recorded from an undisclosed location, in which he levelled fresh allegations of corruption against the Assam CM and challenged him to respond.
In the video, Khera questioned the recent police action against him and maintained that raising questions was a democratic right. He claimed that a large police team had visited his residence in Delhi over the past few days, seizing personal belongings, including electronic devices. According to him, such actions were aimed at intimidation rather than addressing the issues raised by the opposition.
Khera asserted that despite these developments, he would continue to speak out and demand answers. He accused the authorities of attempting to silence dissent instead of responding to the concerns put forward by his party.
The Congress leader also raised questions regarding an alleged company named “Bhuyan Properties LLC,” claiming that information about it surfaced after the lifting of a non-disclosure agreement. He alleged that the entity listed Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of the Chief Minister, as an authorised member, and pointed to details such as multiple international addresses and references to foreign citizenship.
He further called for an official probe into claims of multiple passports and residency-related documents allegedly linked to Sarma’s family, including those from countries such as Antigua and Barbuda and the UAE. Khera stressed that only a formal investigation could verify the authenticity of these claims.
Additionally, he questioned the expenses related to the education of a relative of the Chief Minister in Dubai, alleging high annual fees and asking whether such details were accurate. He urged Sarma to address these issues directly, stating that the opposition’s focus remained on accountability and public interest.
