Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended his congratulations to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen after she secured a third consecutive term in office, expressing confidence that bilateral ties between the two nations would continue to grow under her leadership.
In a message shared on social media, Modi described Frederiksen as a friend and praised her achievement of returning to office for a third term. He highlighted the strong relationship between India and Denmark, noting that the partnership is rooted in mutual trust, democratic values, and a shared commitment to sustainable development.
The Prime Minister said he looked forward to working closely with Frederiksen to further deepen the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and expand cooperation in areas of common interest.
India and Denmark elevated their ties to a Green Strategic Partnership in 2020, a framework designed to enhance collaboration in sectors such as renewable energy, climate action, sustainable urban development, agriculture, science and technology, innovation, digitisation, and labour mobility. The initiative built upon an earlier bilateral cooperation agreement signed in 2009.
The two leaders met recently during Prime Minister Modi's five-nation foreign tour, where they held bilateral discussions and also participated in the Third India-Nordic Summit in Norway.
Frederiksen secured another term after successfully forming a new centre-left coalition government following extensive negotiations among political parties in the aftermath of parliamentary elections. The elections produced a fragmented mandate, requiring weeks of coalition-building efforts before a governing arrangement could be finalised.
The new government was formally announced after Frederiksen met Danish monarch King Frederik X. The coalition is expected to command majority support in Parliament.
At 48, Frederiksen remains one of Europe's most prominent political figures. She first became Denmark's prime minister in 2019, making history as the country's youngest head of government. With the beginning of her third term, she is now positioned to become Denmark's longest-serving prime minister since World War II if she completes the full tenure.

Frederiksen has attracted international attention in recent years for her positions on a range of global issues, including her strong defence of Greenland's status within the Kingdom of Denmark amid international debates surrounding the strategically important Arctic territory.
