President Droupadi Murmu on Monday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in Gujarat and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
Seven people were killed and four others injured after a speeding truck allegedly ran over them on the roadside in Surendranagar district during the early hours of Monday, according to police.
The accident took place on the Lakhtar-Viramgam highway around 1.30 am when a group of pilgrims was walking from Rajkot to Bahucharaji as part of a religious procession to offer prayers at a temple.

“The news of the loss of lives in a road accident in Surendranagar district of Gujarat is extremely sad. I express my condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in this accident. I pray for the speedy recovery of those who have been injured,” Murmu said in a post on X.
