Thiruvananthapuram
In Thiruvananthapuram, Congress leader Shama Mohamed has raised concerns over the limited representation of women in ticket allocation for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, urging Rahul Gandhi to intervene.
In a post on X, Mohamed expressed disappointment that only nine out of 92 tickets were given to women candidates. She also pointed out that during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, just one woman was fielded among 16 candidates in the state, calling the situation discouraging for capable women leaders.
Her remarks come shortly after the Congress finalised its candidates list. Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan confirmed that the party has selected nominees for all 95 constituencies it will contest and is now shifting focus to campaigning.
Meanwhile, Gandhi recently took part in a Congress Central Election Committee meeting in New Delhi to discuss strategy for Puducherry. He has also reiterated his support for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala, describing it as a coalition that reflects the aspirations of the people.
