Engineering student Ruhi Fatima launches venture with zero capital

SN Ruhi Fatima, the final year engineering student of the city, has brought the lovers of home-cooked food and the homemakers whose major skill is cooking, on one platform to lay the foundation of her maiden venture. Ruhi’s venture Mamafood.in was launched in December with just 12 registered home cooks. SN Ruhi is a final year student of Electronic and communication engineering (Ece) from the Deccan College of Engineering.


Ruhi, 21, who hails from the Mehndipatnam area of ​​Hyderabad, has named her venture “Mama Food” Her online platform Mamafood.in was launched in December with no capital. Ruhi is a hands-on entrepreneur as she worked on creating, building, and marketing her website all by herself.

 

Ruhi Fatima told Awaz-The-Voice on the phone, “I was always fond of launching my business; this work of ours is completely different from other companies.”

Her platform has created a market for women who want to work from home especially with their food. Anyone in Hyderabad wanting to savour the home-cooked food can order it by entering on their website. There is no fixed menu and it’s updated on daily basis, depending on the choice of the home cooks.

 

In turn, the orders are sent to the registered home cook and she – even men are allowed - prepares the food. The customer has two choices: he can either come and pick it up or it could be home delivered by Mamafood.in.

 

Fatima today employs 14 persons who are mainly into courier service for clients.

 

Asked why women of Muslim families should not go out to work and display their abilities, Ruhi said, “While studying, one must make an effort to do something for society. You can show your importance to the people, after studying and set an example for others.”

Her venture has given a source of income to homemakers without stepping out of their homes and an avenue for Maan ke haath ka khana to the single men and women professionals working in the city.


Ruhi, the eldest of three siblings, says that the age of 17 to 21 years is very important for any human: whatever he does at this age sticks to his life.

She has walked her talk: earlier she has managed a website Maddad that linked job providers with handicapped job seekers.

 

Fatima says right now her website covers only Hyderabad; however, soon she plans to spread her network in other states.
