The All India Mahila Congress will raise the issue of greater political reservation for women during its meeting with senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, party leaders said.
Addressing a press conference, Surbhi Verma said the organisation was pressing for firm measures to ensure one-third representation for women in legislatures as well as within the party structure.
She said the Mahila Congress would urge Gandhi to strongly support implementation of the Women's Reservation Bill in its current form, providing 33 per cent reservation across all 543 seats of the Lok Sabha.
Verma accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of delaying implementation of the legislation and then blaming opposition parties. She said women across the country had united to secure their rights and could collectively ensure the reservation becomes reality.
She added that protest activities in Himachal Pradesh had been temporarily paused due to the Model Code of Conduct in force for ongoing Panchayati Raj elections, but would resume once the electoral process ends.
According to Verma, Mahila Congress workers are mobilising women nationwide, with demonstrations already taking place in Delhi and other regions to build pressure for early implementation of the quota.
As part of the campaign, the organisation plans to send one lakh postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding immediate enforcement of 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament.

She said the upcoming interaction with Gandhi in Kangra district would be an important opportunity to highlight women’s political representation and seek stronger legislative and organisational backing.
