NASA honours Assam's Aryan Zishan for discovering 2 asteroids

New Delhi

Aryan Zishan Ahmed, an engineering student from Assam, has been honoured by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) of the USA for discovering two asteroids  orbiting between Mars and Jupiter.

Aryan is a first-semester B.Tech student in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Science and Technology (USTM) in Meghalaya.

He is  from Rangia, a big town in the Kamrup district of Assam. His achievement has brought pride not only to his family and town, but also to his educational institutions and the entire district.

Aryan, as part of an official research mission of the International Astronomical Research Collaboration (IASC), identified two previously unrecorded main-belt asteroids.Aryan Zishan Ahmad, a resident of Rangia in Assam, has achieved a major milestone in space science.

These asteroids have now been named 2024 VE8 and 2024 VC23.

For this research, the US space agency NASA has recognized his contributions, which is considered a major achievement early in his academic career.

Aryan, the eldest son of Mirajul Islam, principal of Jaintipur Yogeshwar Vidyapeeth, and Ruma Nazreen, conducted the research by analyzing data from the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS), operated by the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii, in collaboration with NASA.

Through in-depth data analysis, Aryan (Aryan Zishan Ahmed) identified these two asteroids, which are found in the main belt region between Mars and Jupiter. According to him, such discoveries help understand the origin of the solar system and are also important for monitoring celestial bodies in space.
