In the wake of a recent fatal accident in Noida where a tech professional lost his life after his vehicle plunged into a water-filled pit, the Delhi Police leadership has instructed district-level officers to systematically identify and safeguard accident-prone and high-risk spots across the capital, sources said.

The directive was issued during an internal review meeting focused on strengthening preventive policing and leveraging technology to reduce accidental deaths. District Deputy Commissioners of Police have been asked to coordinate with civic agencies, road-owning departments and traffic authorities to carry out detailed surveys of vulnerable road stretches, construction zones and areas with poor visibility.

Officials said that once such locations are identified, adequate safety measures including physical demarcation, reflective warning signs and barricades will be put in place to alert road users in advance. These locations will also be digitally mapped on platforms such as Google Maps, enabling real-time alerts for commuters using navigation applications.

“The emphasis is on proactive intervention rather than reaction. Motorists should not be caught off guard by sudden road hazards caused by missing signage, insufficient lighting or abrupt changes in road conditions,” a senior police officer said.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort by the Delhi Police to integrate technological tools with conventional policing practices to address accidents linked to infrastructural shortcomings.

The move follows widespread public anger after a 27-year-old software engineer died in Noida when his car fell into a waterlogged excavation site amid heavy fog. Residents alleged that the area lacked proper barricading and reflective markers.

In response, the Noida Authority took disciplinary action against officials, ordered a safety audit of construction sites and registered an FIR based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family.

Although the Noida incident is under a separate investigation, Delhi Police officials said the tragedy has underscored the need for stronger inter-agency coordination and consistent safety checks. Regular district-level reviews will be conducted to monitor implementation, with inputs also being sought from traffic police units and local residents.

“The objective is to make roads and public spaces significantly safer for everyone,” the officer added.
