Seychelles President Dr Patrick Herminie on Monday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, marking a key engagement during his ongoing State Visit to India.
Sharing details of the visit on social media platform X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the tribute reflected the enduring relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, which continue to shape and strengthen ties between India and Seychelles.

Following the visit to Rajghat, President Herminie met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also called on the Seychelles President and expressed appreciation for his support to India’s Vision MAHASAGAR initiative.
President Herminie arrived in New Delhi on Sunday after concluding engagements in Chennai and Mumbai. His visit, which will continue until February 10, marks his first trip to India since assuming office in October 2025 and coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to the MEA, during his interactions in Chennai and Mumbai, the Seychelles President engaged with stakeholders from diverse sectors including governance, industry, coastal management, and healthcare, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.
In Chennai, Herminie, accompanied by Seychelles Health Minister Marvin Nolan Fanny, met SIMS Hospital Chairman Ravi Pachamuthu to discuss a long-term healthcare collaboration roadmap. The discussions focused on strengthening healthcare services in Seychelles through super-specialty medical outreach, hospital infrastructure development, digital health solutions, workforce support, affordable medicines, and expansion of dialysis services.
In Mumbai, the President met Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and participated in the India–Seychelles Business Roundtable. The discussions centred on boosting cooperation in maritime trade, the blue economy, investment, and sustainable development.

The MEA reiterated Seychelles’ strategic significance for India, describing it as a key maritime neighbour and an important partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, underscoring New Delhi’s broader commitment to engagement with the Global South.
